Today, let's talk Hand Washing! We all know that it's important to wash your hands. It's definitely something that many of us spend more time thinking about in the last year or so than we probably ever have. Why is it so critical? Click the link below to find out. We have been so lucky to have some fantastic sponsors for our event. For anyone who is unaware of our history, this started out as the Be Kind to Your Mind 5K in Spring 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we had to cancel that event. To be honest, we almost cancelled this year's event too, if it wasn't for Mrs. Wilt's Social Work Intern, Britt, who asserted that COVID-19 has taken enough from us, and it shouldn't get to take this away too!
The idea morphed from at 5K to the Wellness Challenge it is now. We discovered the new settings that RunSignUp.com offered, and it seemed like a perfect fit. We were so lucky to still have funding from last year that we have been able to use to get this year's event up and running. So thank you to: Frederick County Health Department They donated an incredible $500 to our event last spring! Milton Hershey School They donated an amazing $500 to our event last Spring. They had intended to also donate a massive Hershey Bar for the raffle, but unfortunately that was cancelled along with the 5K. The Auto Spa / The Lube Center They were our very first sponsor last year. They gave us a fantastic $500 as well. Thank you to the Frederick County Health Department, the Milton Hershey School, and The Auto Spa / The Lube Center for all you have done to support us. We could not have done any of this without your generous donations. We also want to take a moment to recognize our additional sponsors. Donating a generous $250, thank you so much to: Baker Tree Services, Inc. Thurmont Little League Winterbrook Farms And for making a $100 donation, thank you to: Acacia Lodge No. 155 AF&AM American Foundation for Suicide Prevention American Legion Girls on the Run Mid-Maryland McDonalds of Thurmont Mick's Plumbing and Heating OneLove Wegmans Thanks again to everyone who donated to our cause and helped us make this event happen. You have all been beyond amazing in your support. Happy Tuesday, all! We interrupt your normal Tuesday to share with you that our awards have officially arrived! We wanted to take this moment to let you see for yourself what prizes are going to be up for grabs at the end of this challenge. For Children Under 12:
We will be awarding the most activities logged, most time logged, and most miles logged! For Teens Ages 12-17: We decided to add a category of prizes to make it easier for teens to win awards rather than just being lumped in with adults. They can also win prizes for most activities, time, and miles logged. Just for Adults 18+: Adults also have a chance to win prizes for most time, miles, and activities completed. Finally, our last three will be overall prizes for those listed as Teens/Adults: We will be awarding prizes for longest distance in a single run, fastest pace overall for those of you logging pacing, and longest time in a single activity. We hope you all are as excited about these as we are! Look out for the next email later this morning about our sponsors and their thank you gifts that just arrived. As always, thank you for participating and showing your support! It's Togetherness Tuesday!
We spend a lot of time with our friends. When we're thinking about who we like to be around, they're usually the first we think of. If you friend was struggling with mental health, would you know what to say or do? How would you help them? Have you ever heard of Seize the Awkward? Check out the slide below to learn about them and click the link for more information. It's Mindfulness Monday! Happy Monday!
It is so important for people of all ages to have a variety of ways to practice mindfulness and overall stress relief. One of the benefits of having the internet at our fingertips is that there are countless resources out there, as long as you know where to find them. Today we're focusing on a website geared toward teens to help them practice mindfulness. Read the slide below and click it to follow the link. Don't forget this week's challenge: This week's challenge is going to be a little bit different. Week one, you were challenged to dress up and upload pictures. Week two, you were challenged to get out there and log activities. This week, I want to send you to our website, particularly to our blog. Did you know that every one of these daily posts also shows up in the "Content" portion of our website? It's set up as a blog, which also means you can comment on each individual post. Your challenge this week is to check out the posts and interact with us. Leave us some comments. We'll count up every comment posted by a registered participant this week and on Friday morning we'll draw a few winners. |
